A weekend in Winchester

So my friend studies in Winchester, so I decided to go and visit her for a weekend. First of all; It was so amazing getting out of London for a couple of days! I never ever thought I would say that..

I was supposed to go there on friday, but seeing as I wouldn't have finished until about seven o'clock at night, I decided to wait till saturday. The family also needed me to babysit, so I thought it would just make things easier. And it was kind of nice.
I ordered my ticket on friday night for the 11.04 train from London Waterloo. And I was late. Wow. £34 going to shit.. And having to buy a new ticket...... FUCK.

Anyways. Winchester is beautiful.

The pictures are kind of shit, but you get the feel of the town. A small, cozy English town. On saturday night we went out to several different bars and pubs and clubs, and I have to say that for a small town the amount of different places to go was kind of surprising, but as it being a town with lots of students I guess that's the way it should be.

And as a poor au pair I have to say that the prices outside of London is AHmazing!!

All in all, it was a great weekend,

A Cappella

Soo, with nothing to do here in London, and loads of time on my hands I decided to join an A Cappella group. Do something I love. The group is at a school called city lit, which is a school for adults. So needless to say; There's a lot of older people in the group. That's okay though.

I'll let you know how it goes, as I've only been an official part of the group for about 7 hours.

Secret London - Unusual bars & resturants

So I bought another travel book. Now I just have to start using the tips I'm getting from the books. This one looks like a lot of fun too; There's a pub that's dedicated to Sherlock Holmes, so you go there, and if yiou go to the second floor and you'll find a room that's decorated just like his study. It would be really cool to go see that!

At some point I'm going to check it out. I just have to find someone to go with...

Cheers, Elisabeth xx

New projects

So everything is still going good. Homesickness does take over sometimes, and you feel like absolute crap. Sometimes I can't really remember why I decided to do this, but then I remember all the wonderful experiences I have from before. Spending a year in the US, and then spending a semester in Rome. What if I would have given up on those, and missed out on lifelong friends and amazing memories.

Anyways, that was not really what I was going to write about; As some of you might already know , it is quite common to do a language course in English, but with me already having spent a year in USA I don't really feel like I need it. Plus, it's fucking expensive!! Like 700 quids for one semester. No way!!!

So I'm looking for other stuff to do, courses in music or maybe even French or Italian. But those courses are fucking expensive too, so I bought this:

I'm so poor, that finding stuff to do that doesn't cost me that much is very essential. The book also have tips from other people who live in London about what their favorite things to do are. So my new project is to find someone to do some of these things with, and get going with it.

So I'm here for around 330 days, and 25 of those days have already gone by. And so quickly too. HASHTAG SADFACE.

Looking forward to telling you more about my new project. I also bought another book, that I'll show you later.

Accidental adventures

Soo, I forgot to tell you guys that last week I went on an adventure. Sadly, it was an accidental adventure.

I had just been to lunch with a new friend, another Norwegian au pair, and was on my way home when I got seriously lost. Getting lost would have been fine, but I also had to pick up the oldest of the two kids from school. MAJOR FREAKOUT.

I decided to get of a stop early on the tube so that I could walk for a bit, maybe look around. That turned out to be the worst idea ever.

So I walked out of the tube station, and walked the wrong way. I walked and walked, convinced that I was going the right way. So about 15 minutes into the walk I realized that I should be seeing something familiar, but everything was wrong the houses, the neighborhood and the roads. Thank god for Google maps!!

So with about 25 minutes to go until pickup time at school and me being about 45 minutes walk away the sweat started to run down my face. I quickly sped up my walking pace to almost a jog, and with my face all red and flustered I decided to take the bus. And got on the wrong bus. Wrong fucking side of the road. Fuckin' Britian.

Fortunately I realized my mistake pretty quickly and got off after one stop, and ran to catch the bus on the other side.

Somehow I was only 10 minutes late for pickup, and wasn't the last one there.

Hopefully I'll never have an adventure like that.

So far so good.

It's raining.  But I mean, of course it's raining. This is London.
It's also been a week. I have already been here for a week!! And what a busy week it's been.

First of all, I've gotten to know the family and the kids. A huge step for me. And the kids are finally taking a liking to me. Which is a giant step for them. And no; This blog is not about the moon landing in '69. And yes; I googled that to see if 1969 was right.

I've even taken a look at the neighborhood I'll be living in, which is absolutely lovely. A lot of parks nearby, which is nice for the kids. When it stops raining. Oh, well.
